ACADEMY END ON A HIGH

EDINBURGH are up to second place in the WSRA NDL table after holding on for a 46-44 win at Belle Vue on Sunday.

Jordy Loftus collected the all-important second place in Heat 15 as Colts star Will Cairns completed a 15-point maximum.

The home side had fought back from six points down with reserve Harry Fletcher enjoying his best-ever performance with 11 points including three wins.

But a 13-point haul from Loftus was backed up by solid displays throughout the Monarchs Academy side as they took the victory.

Manager Scott Wilson said: “I’m really pleased today, with the result first and foremost but also the performance of the whole team. We needed everybody to do their bit, and all seven contributed to the win.

“We built a good lead over the middle portion of the meeting, which we needed in the end as Belle Vue pushed us all the way, but we held our nerve to get over the line.

“It’s a nice way to end the season. We finish just one point short of top spot which tells the story of how well the team have done.”
