BONANZA HEADING TO WORKINGTON

WORKINGTON are to host the 2024 Ben Fund Bonanza at Northside on Saturday March 16.

The annual fund-raising event organised by the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund, is always well supported by the speedway public and accounts for roughly 25 per cent of the charity’s annual income.

The SRBF celebrated its 75th anniversary this year and the Bonanza at King’s Lynn, which was won by Danny King, attracted one of its best line-ups and was also broadcast on the British Speedway Network.

And chairman Paul Ackroyd anticipates an equally good meeting in Cumbria next spring, after the huge success of Workington’s return to racing this year.

Ackroyd said: “Without the generosity of the public, the Benevolent Fund would not be able to do the work that we do and we are very grateful for their ongoing support.

“This year has been tough for everyone, particularly as we are in the grips of a cost-of-living crisis which has made every donation all the more important and gratefully received.

“We are thrilled to be heading to Workington for the Ben Fund Bonanza next year. It is a fabulous track and I’m certain anyone who hasn’t been before will be tempted to make the journey.

“We have already got a handful of riders in mind, and almost every year we have to turn people away because we just don’t have the room for the number of guys who want to ride.

“It’s very rewarding for us to see how much value the riders, as well as the public, place on us and a lot of them who appear in the Bonanza have experienced first-hand the aid we provide.

“We hope to bring further details of the meeting in the New Year.”
