PREVIEW: SCUNTHORPE v REDCAR (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)

SCUNTHORPE open their home Cab Direct Championship campaign with a clash against Redcar at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday).

The Scorpions won the reverse fixture 46-44 so the aggregate point is also up for grabs, and they have made a strong start to the season with progression to the semi-finals of two other competitions.

By contrast the Bears have had a more difficult time and have therefore made a team change with Dan Gilkes making his debut in place of Jonas Knudsen. Tate Zischke guests for the injured Danny King.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’re very familiar with the Redcar Bears having met twice in the BSN Series and once in the league, and they’ve not had the best of luck so far, suffering injuries and losing all of their first four league matches.

“That means they have their backs against the wall already in terms of making the play-offs and will be desperate to get points on the board tonight to give themselves a chance, so we really need to be on our guard.”

Gilkes said: “I’m hoping to get a lot of race wins! I’ll be doing everything on and off track to bring the best version of Dan Gilkes for the club, and if I can get some race wins, hopefully that will contribute to the side getting some wins, which will put a smile back on Bears fans’ faces.

“It’s no secret that I like the Scunthorpe track, when I was a youth rider it was a track that I would visit regularly. I always enjoy coming to Scunthorpe and racing and I can’t wait to start my Bears career there this Friday.”

SCUNTHORPE: Kyle Howarth, Connor Mountain, Simon Lambert, Jake Allen, Michael Palm Toft, Nathan Ablitt, Luke Harrison.
REDCAR: Charles Wright, Connor Bailey, Dan Gilkes, Jason Edwards, Tate Zischke, Ben Trigger, Jake Mulford.
