FLYING START FOR BULLETS

BERWICK put four National Development League points on the board with an impressive 52-38 win in their opener at Armadale.

The Bullets’ top two of Kyle Bickley (12+1) and Greg Blair (11+1) were both in fine form, and the visitors were also dominant at reserve with youngster Ace Pijper clocking up 9+1 on his debut.

William Lawson scored 14 from five rides for the Devils and skipper Tom Woolley picked up 11, but their top men lacked support.

Berwick boss Gary Flint said: “Great performance from the guys, really spot on, and while they all played their part, what a debut for young Ace Pijper who won his first race and went on to take some good scalps.

“But overall this was a cracking team performance and they thoroughly deserved their away success.”

Devils manager Alan Budzynski said: “We kept ourselves in with a chance until near the end. Willie Lawson was amazing and Tom Woolley was very good, but there were too many first-night nerves.

“I’m sure we can go down to Berwick next week and do a better job.”
