FIM GOLD FOR DEMI-BLU

BRITISH racer Demi-Blu Harris has won her first official FIM championship thanks to a faultless display in Croatia on Saturday.

The 15-year-old raced to a 12-point maximum in the FIM Women’s Speedway Gold Trophy, an event for 250cc under-16 riders run in conjunction with the FIM Women’s Speedway World Cup for senior 500cc riders.

Harris also took part in the two-day FIM Women’s Speedway Academy on Thursday where riders received expert tuition from Northampton star Matej Zagar along with top FIM officials and former riders Armando Castagna, Phil Morris and Glen Phillips.

She said: “It was good. I enjoyed riding with all the other girls – they pushed me hard. Thanks to everyone in Croatia, especially (local organiser) Darija (Pavlic), for putting this event on.

“I really enjoyed my racing! It was great to be involved in some strong, competitive races that pushed me all day. I had to work hard in every race, stay focused, and keep looking for opportunities to improve my speed.

“The competition was tough, which made it even more enjoyable, and I loved the challenge of having to give 100 per cent every time I went out on track. It was a brilliant day of racing, plenty of learning, and lots of fun alongside great riders. I am looking forward to the next one!”
