TIGERS WIN HOME OPENER

GLASGOW skipper Chris Harris scored a paid maximum in the Tigers’ 51-39 win over Berwick at Ashfield in the BSN Series.

Harris and fellow heat leader Kyle Howarth were in dominant form as the home side fought off the Bandits’ challenge, having been just four points ahead after Heat 9.

Howarth dropped his only points in Heat 13 when he and Harris were split by Peter Kildemand, but the Tigers’ top two completed a 5-1 in Heat 15 despite worsening conditions due to rain.

Harris scored 14+1 from five rides backed up by Howarth on 13, whilst Victor Palovaara (9+1) and Nick Morris (9) led the way for the Bandits, who host the return fixture on Saturday.

Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “We knew that Berwick would be a tough challenge for us, and it turned out that way. 

“The boys had to find something special and dig deep to get the first home win. It’s always hard when the boys haven’t had many laps around Ashfield.

“We now go to Berwick on Saturday night going for another win. But the least we need to do is get the aggregate point.” 

Berwick manager Stewart Dickson said: “ It was a tough night and there is no question Glasgow adapted better to the conditions.

“Even so there were some promising signs and a couple of my riders got invaluable track time under their belts.

“We start again at Shielfield Park and if we are going to go anywhere in the BSN Series we have to stop Glasgow.”
