ADVANTAGE BEARS IN CUP CLASH
REDCAR built up a 12-point lead to take to Edinburgh next week at the halfway stage of their MAXiCab KO Cup quarter-final.
The Bears won 51-39 at the Ecco Arena on Friday with reserve Jody Scott the hero as he was involved in all three of their 5-1s on the night.
After seven races the sides were only separated by two points but Scott teamed up with Ace Pijper in Heat 8 and Jordan Jenkins in Heat 12 to help them extend their lead into double figures.
His score of 10+4 was backed by Jake Allen on 11, whilst Kye Thomson impressed for the Monarchs with 12+1 including a terrific ride from the back against Allen to win Heat 15.
Edinburgh skipper Paco Castagna (9+1) said: “Before the meeting I felt we could have won, but Redcar got used to the track quicker than us so fair play to them.
“I still feel like we can pull it back at home, we are strong at home and we have a couple of guys that had a bit of an off-night, but that happens.
“It is a team sport and we win and lose as a team, and as a team I still think we can beat Redcar next week and go through.”
