PREVIEW: OXFORD v SHEFFIELD (ROWE MOTOR OIL PREM)

SHEFFIELD head to Oxford tonight (Thursday) knowing an away win would mathematically secure their place in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership play-offs.

King’s Lynn are the one team currently outside the top four who could still reach 33 points in the standings.

But victory at Cowley for the Tigers would also see them claim the aggregate point following their 60-30 triumph over the Spires at Owlerton last month and would move them onto 34 league points.

Earlier in the season, the South Yorkshire side fought back from being ten points down to claim a dramatic Super Heat success at Sandy Lane.

Tigers’ in-form Rising Star Leon Flint said: “We really want to try and finish top of the league – what better confidence could you have going from fourth to first if we can manage to do that?

“We had a nice, strong team performance on Monday and hopefully we can all just keep building.

“I’m feeling really good on the bike at the minute and my form is really good – I want to keep that going now into the run to the play-offs.”

Oxford manager Peter Schroeck said: “Spires might be out of contention for the play-offs, but we can still prove to be spoilers to other teams.

“We had Ritchie Hawkins a bit worried at Ipswich last Thursday – both he and Leicester’s Stewart Dickson made positive comments of how we’d performed at their tracks.

“It was a fabulous night of speedway last time that Sheffield visited the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium and I can’t see Thursday night being any different. We’d love to beat the Tigers this time, and we’ll do everything we can to come out on top at the end of the evening.”
