YOUNG STARS GAIN FIRST WIN

KING’S Lynn Young Stars are off the mark in the WSRA National Development League with a hard-fought 49-41 home win over Buxton.

Skipper Simon Lambert scored a 15-point maximum and combined for two late 5-1s with Jake Mulford as the Young Stars fought back from an early four-point deficit to take the victory.

Mulford, with 11+2, would also have been unbeaten but for throttle trouble in Heat 11 which enabled the Bulls to level the scores at the time.

Reserve Jack Roberts top-scored for the visitors with 12+1 as they await their first victory back in the NDL.

King’s Lynn manager Jason Pipe said: “It’s good to finally put some points on the board, and it puts us in a good, positive mood heading to Redcar next week.

“It was tough going and at one point I thought it might be going Buxton’s way, because they had a few riders who haven’t been going that well of late who did go well.

“Simon rode like a true captain with a 15-point maximum. He wasn’t going to do Heat 15 but when we had that surprise 5-1 against us in Heat 14 I had to tell him I needed him to do it!”

Buxton boss Laurence Rogers said: “We are obviously disappointed to lose the meeting, but I feel we put on a really good performance and were in the meeting throughout.

“We came really close to getting something out of it and I’m hopeful we can get the aggregate point when we have the return at Hi-Edge later in the season.”
