PREVIEW: SPORTS INSURE BRITISH FINAL CHAMPIONSHIP

BELLE Vue stage the rearranged Sports Insure British Final Championship at the National Speedway Stadium today (Sunday, 3pm).

The meeting was abandoned after 12 races due to rain back in early August, and the national champion will therefore be crowned today.

There are six former winners in the field with Craig Cook a late re-addition to the line-up, whilst Simon Lambert has received a call-up due to injury for Lewis Kerr.

Cook, Scott Nicholls, Chris Harris, Danny King, Charles Wright and Adam Ellis are all former winners – whilst former Aces favourite Dan Bewley is seeking his first title.

Bewley, Harris and another Belle Vue racer Tom Brennan were all on level on eight points when the original event was halted.

Wright said: “I know I’m capable scoring some decent points, and with the gates coming to me in my later rides I feel confident that I can, at minimum, make the semi-final if not go straight to the Final.

“There’s no feeling quite like it, winning the British Championship. It was such a proud moment for me in 2019, when I never expected to win, and it’s something I would love to experience again.”

The meeting will also feature the first presentation of the Nigel Pearson Award, with the winner to be selected via a fans’ vote after Heat 20.

LINE-UP: Connor Mountain, Leon Flint, Chris Harris, Steve Worrall, Kyle Howarth, Dan Bewley, Paul Starke, Craig Cook, Charles Wright, Simon Lambert, Richard Lawson, Richie Worrall, Danny King, Scott Nicholls, Adam Ellis, Tom Brennan. Reserves: Jordan Jenkins, Jack Shimelt.
