STARS STILL IN THE FIGHT

KING’S Lynn kept their outside Premiership play-off hopes alive by taking all four league points from a 52-38 win at local rivals Peterborough.

The Stars raced into an early 12-point lead in a meeting delayed by 40 minutes due to track work after rain in the day, with the action then proceeding with fast times and no issues.

Panthers cut the gap to four points with Benjamin Basso in excellent form, but the visitors pulled clear in the closing stages and secured maximum points when Nicolai Klindt won Heat 14.

Richard Lawson dropped just one point to an opponent as he finished on 13+1 for the Stars with reserve Frederik Jakobsen notching 10, whilst Basso scored 13 from five for the Panthers and Chris Harris weighed in with 10.

King’s Lynn boss Alex Brady said: “It was much needed, our first away win in the league this season, and there were a few hairy moments along the way, but we took control early doors which was what we wanted to do.

“They came back at us in the middle part, but we showed some good resolve and came out on top fairly comfortably in the end, so I’m very pleased.

“Although it’s a long shot, mathematically we’re still in with a shout, so we’ll keep fighting for as long as we can.”

Panthers manager Rob Lyon said: “It sums our season up really. We thought we’d have a one-to-seven, or thereabouts, but in the last 24 hours it fell apart a little bit, and as we’ve said before you can’t run rider-replacement when you haven’t got everyone firing, or at least four firing.

“So it was the same old story, but fair play to King’s Lynn, they smelt victory, they knew we were weakened, and they got the job done.”
