PREVIEW: BIRMINGHAM v COVENTRY SELECT (Ch)

BIRMINGHAM renew their rivalry with the Coventry Bees at Perry Barr tonight (Wednesday) with a West Midlands Challenge fixture.

The two have enjoyed many battles down the years with several memorable, keenly contested meetings along the way.

Wednesday sees a Bees Select led by Chris Harris and Hans Andersen make a rare track appearance after a devastating few years for the triple Elite League winners.

Brandon Stadium was closed by property developers at the end of the 2016 season as they seek to build housing on the long-established sports venue.

Birmingham promoter Laurence Rogers said: “As people will know I was involved with the Bees and the Coventry Storm for a number of years and it’s absolutely ridiculous what’s been allowed to happen at Brandon.

“It’s tragic in fact but Jeff Davies and his team refuse to give up the fight and fair play to them.

“While they continue to do everything they can to try and bring speedway back to Brandon, they’re keeping the name alive by competing in meetings whenever possible and we’re delighted to be welcoming them to Perry Barr.

“It’s a great opportunity for Bees fans to see that famous race jacket on track again, it’s a great opportunity for Brummies fans to get their live speedway fix and it’s a great opportunity for any newcomers to really try and get hooked and get them ready for next season.”

BIRMINGHAM: Tom Brennan, Simon Lambert, James Wright, Broc Nicol, Justin Sedgmen, Lee Complin, James Pearson.
COVENTRY: Chris Harris, Adam Roynon, Connor Mountain, Joe Thompson, Hans Andersen, Luke Crang, Freddy Hodder.
