HARRIS THE HERO; SATURDAY PREVIEW

CHRIS Harris raced to a sensational paid maximum as Glasgow came from behind to edge out Berwick 48-41 at Ashfield.

The Bandits were in with a chance of a shock away win when they led by three points with three races to go, but Harris inspired the Tigers’ comeback with a last-to-first effort in Heat 13.

Jack Smith and James Pearson then put the hosts ahead before Harris overtook Erik Riss in Heat 15 to team up with Steve Worrall for a final 5-1.

The Glasgow captain scored 14+1 with Worrall adding 11, whilst Riss made an impressive guest appearance for the Bandits with 11+1.

Tigers manager Cami Brown said: “Chris was out of this world. He was unbeaten by an opponent all night, but his last three rides were simply incredible.

“He is worth the admission price alone. He saved the meeting for us. We were struggling but Chris dragged us back into it.

“Chris is like a fine wine; he just gets better with age. The racing was also sensational. Fans that have been coming for years said it was the best they had ever seen at Ashfield.

“We still have problems to solve. We are just not getting every rider clicking on the same night. When that happens, someone is in for one heck of a beating.

“It’s frustrating but we go to Berwick on Saturday night with renewed belief we can get a result.”

The line-ups are unchanged for the return at Shielfield Park with Riss, Sam Hagon and Jason Garrad all continuing as guests for the Bandits.

BERWICK: Lewis Kerr, Danyon Hume, Jye Etheridge, Drew Kemp, Erik Riss, Jason Garrad, Sam Hagon.
GLASGOW: Chris Harris, Paul Starke, Leon Flint, James Pearson, Steve Worrall, Jack Smith, Ace Pijper.
SCB Referee: Gary Allen
