CHARGERS SEE OFF COLTS’ RESISTANCE

OXFORD made it four wins out of four in the WSRA National Development League by overcoming Belle Vue 49-40 at Cowley.

Heat leaders Jody Scott (10+2) and Luke Killeen (10) led the way for the Chargers, who made a fast start to the meeting, with Ashton Vale wrapping up his impressive stint at reserve with 8+1.

British Under-21 Champion Sam Hagon was the individual star of the day as he scored 14 points for the Colts, missing out only to Jason Garrad in Heat 5.

Oxford manager Peter Schroeck said: “It was a great afternoon, the weather was nice, the track was brilliant, and it was good for all the boys.

“There were no major big issues going on, and a great win for us. We did a good job and won the match with important points all the way through.”

Colts co-boss Steve Williams said: “While there are plenty of positives to take from today, we can’t escape the fact that we let the first half of the meeting get away from us.

“We couldn’t be prouder of the way they bounced back after being 14 points down. They could’ve easily let their heads drop but they didn’t, they got on with the job.

“It sets us up for a great return leg at the National Speedway Stadium. The points are very much up for grabs and we look forward to welcoming the Chargers to Manchester.”
