POSTPONED: SHEFFIELD v IPSWICH (ROWE MOTOR OIL PREM)
WEDNESDAY’S scheduled ROWE Motor Oil Premiership match at Owlerton between Sheffield and Ipswich has been postponed because of a waterlogged track. A new date will be announced in due course.
SHEFFIELD and Ipswich meet in a rescheduled ROWE Motor Oil Premiership clash at Owlerton tonight (Wednesday) as the battle for top spot continues.
The sides are due to race home and away over the next 24 hours with the Tigers needing to win both in order to overhaul the Witches for league leadership ahead of the play-offs.
They also require points to move into second spot above Leicester, who are one point above Sheffield and race their final regular meeting at Oxford on Thursday.
The hosts name a full-strength team but Ipswich make two changes tonight due to clashing fixtures in Denmark as Chris Harris and Kyle Howarth replace Jason Doyle and Adam Ellis.
Tigers boss Simon Stead said: “Yes, it would be nice if we could finish top once again, but to do that we’ve got to beat Ipswich home and away.
“They’re a top team who have been at the pointy end of the table all season, so in that respect it’s a good challenge for us and I’m looking forward to seeing how we get on across the two meetings.
“But whatever happens, the play-offs are just around the corner now and we’ll be ready to take on whoever we get in those!”
Ipswich manager Ritchie Hawkins said: “Our situation is pretty clear now, if Sheffield win both meetings they will finish top and they will be racing Belle Vue in the semi-final, and if we win one of them then we know we will be.
“We have two shots at it and Wednesday is more of a free hit because we know we have a home meeting on Thursday, and we expect to win all of our home meetings because we are strong at Foxhall.”
