PREVIEW: NORTHAMPTON v IPSWICH (ROWE MOTOR OIL PREM)
NEWCOMERS Northampton aim to improve their home record when they face ROWE Motor Oil Premiership champions Ipswich at the International Shaleway tonight (Monday).
The Foxes thought they had their second win when they led Sheffield by eight points with four races to go in their last encounter, only to be on the wrong end of a dramatic late turnaround.
Niels-Kristian Iversen returns for the clash with the Witches, whilst Kye Thomson moves into the top five after his spectacular run of scoring at reserve.
The visitors suffered a heavy defeat in their last away match at Belle Vue, but they will take confidence into the Northampton trip as they won in the KO Cup in the first-ever meeting at the venue back in April. They bring in Glasgow’s Danish rider Kevin Juhl Pedersen to guest at reserve as Philip Hellstrom-Bangs is out with concussion.
Foxes manager Chris Adams said: “It is a vital strategy that we win our home matches – and if like last week you don’t, it puts the pressure on more to try and offset that result with an away win to compensate.
“Reflecting back on the Sheffield match, we as a team know where we lost it, and I’m confident that when we are in that position again the outcome will be in the Foxes’ favour.
“We have to reset, we go again, and with the positives taken from last meeting I’m sure we will be in for another cracker of a meeting.”
Witches star Scott Nicholls said: “It was a great result for us at the first meeting. Obviously, the Northampton boys have had a lot more track time there now. But we have to take that positive energy there and go with the mindset that we’re going to win.
“For someone like me, who has been around for a little while, it’s quite exciting to go to a new track. I am looking forward to going back on Monday.”
