BELLE VUE and Ipswich meet at the National Speedway Stadium tonight (Monday) with the prize for the aggregate winners being a place in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership Grand Final.

It’s firmly advantage Aces after the first leg of the semi as the league leaders return to Manchester with a 52-38 advantage, and they are looking to secure their progression and maintain their perfect home record.

The Witches, who won the title last year before a protracted winter takeover, admit they were below-par at Foxhall and the trip to the NSS now presents them with the toughest of assignments if they are to cause an upset.

Aces boss Mark Lemon said: “The bottom line is that if we can’t score 39 points at home then we won’t deserve to be in the Grand Final, but there will be no talk whatsoever of just scoring 39 points.

“We want to win the second leg and win it well because achieving good results simply breeds more confidence and we want to be peaking in time for the Final.

“Our home form has been outstanding for most of the season but this is no time to be complacent. Play-off speedway can throw plenty of curve balls so we just have to maintain our focus, keep following the process and I have every confidence in this group of boys that we can get what we’re looking for.”

Witches skipper Danny King said: “They were the better team in the first leg; congratulations to them. But it’s not over.

“We knew it was going to be tough. They are a solid outfit. They finished top of the league for a reason.

“I thought we had enough firepower to get a result at home. I’m just disappointed we couldn’t. They were the better team. You could probably sit back and look at certain things, but ultimately, you have to be honest.”
