LIONS WIN ON THE ROAD

LEICESTER bounced back to winning ways by edging a tight contest 47-43 at King’s Lynn for a first away win in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership this season.

There were never more than two points between the sides until the Lions backed up a match-turning 5-1 in Heat 13 with a 4-2 in Heat 14 to leave them four-up.

Although Stars skipper Chris Harris completed a vintage individual display by coming from the back to win Heat 15, Lions duo Dan Thompson and Ryan Douglas packed in for a 3-3 to ensure the result for their side.

Harris scored 14 from five rides but Jan Kvech was the only other home rider to win a race, whilst Douglas (12+1), Thompson (11) and reserve Kyle Howarth (11+2) were all in double figures for the visitors.

Lions boss Stewart Dickson said: “I think we thoroughly deserved the win. We do tend to go quite well at King’s Lynn, and we were good value for the result.

“Dan and Dougy were both very good, and the rest of the boys chipped in with some good points.

“Obviously there are still one or two positions where we need to get a couple of boys going a bit more, because there will be tougher challenges, but I cannot complain because it’s a good win.”

Harris said: “We knew it was going to be a tough one, it’s always hard when Leicester come here, they are a solid side.

“They had their gating gloves on tonight and they just sneaked the win in the end. Max (Fricke) is still a bit sore from his crash at the weekend and Paco (Castagna) is coming back from his injury, but all in all we can’t really moan.

“I think the track was fantastic for good racing, there was a lot of passing so on that front it was good. It was just from the starts where I think we were lacking as a team.”
