HAWKINS HAPPY WITH WITCHES TOP

IPSWICH manager Ritchie Hawkins says he’s content with his team’s position as they take a break over the next week – but has stressed the hard work is still to come.

The Witches gained a dramatic Super Heat victory at Oxford on Thursday to extend their lead at the top of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership table to eight points.

They now have a clear spell until July 15 when they face Belle Vue at Foxhall, with the week ahead featuring Birmingham’s clash with Oxford on Monday followed by the FIM Speedway of Nations at Belle Vue.

Hawkins said: “It is nice to be top of the table, but we all know it comes down to the play-offs. We don’t want to let our form drop now and it was a massive result (on Thursday).

“I think that is great for us to go into the little break for the Speedway of Nations off the back of that performance, it was really important.

“We are in a very strong position at the top of the league, and we want to finish there but we are well aware it will then start from scratch again.”
