PREVIEW: EDINBURGH v REDCAR (Champ)

EDINBURGH are targeting a major improvement to their home form when they host Redcar at Armadale tonight (Friday).

The Monarchs have suffered recent defeats on their own track to Glasgow and Leicester, and expect another tough test with last year’s regular league matches against the Bears having both ended in draws.

Edinburgh will use rider replacement for Norwegian racer Lasse Fredriksen, who is en route to Hungary for a Speedway Euro Championship qualifier. Redcar’s Jordan Jenkins is out with a knee injury and is replaced by Ben Morley.

Monarchs boss Alex Harkess said: “The single thing we need to do better is get out the start. Whatever the track’s like isn’t important if you’re already last! We’ve got to get out of the starts.

“This week’s visitors Redcar are very welcome. It’s always been a pleasure to have them here and it is a pleasure to go there, as we will on Sunday.

“They have one or two riders that we welcome back; Erik Riss we always think of as one of our boys, and he’ll be out to prove a point, but we will be out to prove that we are better than our recent results.”

Riss said: “We have seen that they are vulnerable around their home track so the aim is to go there and win!

“I enjoyed riding for them, I am more of a fan of the bigger, faster tracks but I did end up winning a lot of races there! Edinburgh is a good club, they looked after me well and I don’t have anything bad to say about the Monarchs.”
