DOUGLAS WINS IT FOR SCORPIONS

SCUNTHORPE edged out Redcar 47-43 in an enthralling Championship clash at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

The meeting went down to a last heat decider with Scorpions No.1 Ryan Douglas storming through from last to first, whilst Erik Riss and Lewis Kerr passed Jake Allen to secure a league point for the Bears.

The visitors had pulled back from ten points down to just two, before guests Justin Sedgmen and Connor Coles took a key 4-2 in Heat 14 to put the Scorpions 44-40 ahead.

Douglas top-scored with 14 points from five rides, whilst Charles Wright led the way for the Bears with 11.

Scunthorpe boss Dave Peet said: “We knew Redcar would be tough to beat – they always are. They ride our place well, just as we ride their place well. But the boys did the job and we got the points.

“It was good to see Ryan Douglas back on it. Ryan is such a classy rider and has been a great No.1 this season, but recently he’s had a few problems with his shoulder. But this evening he showed no ill effects from that at all, scored heavily, and he got us over the winning line in Heat 15.

“All-in-all it was a good team performance, and we fully deserved the three league points against a battling Redcar side.”
