BIG WIN FOR LIONS

LEICESTER ran up a club record victory over the 15-heat format with a 63-27 thrashing of Newcastle on Saturday.

The Lions moved into to the Championship’s top four with the big win, which featured a 15-point maximum for skipper Kyle Howarth.

Nick Morris (14), Ryan Douglas (11+1) and youngster Dan Thompson (10+2) were also in the major points, whilst the Diamonds were limited to two race winners with guest Tero Aarnio top-scoring on 10.

Douglas said: “It was a good win and a good team performance.

“In most meetings recently we’ve had one or two hiccups but it was good see everyone scoring some decent points and getting the win.”

Newcastle boss Nigel Hinchliffe said: “This wasn’t good in any way, shape or form, and Leicester just took control and took us apart systematically and far too effectively. We know we’re better than this, and we will bounce back.”
