KENT have named Ryan Kinsley as the new captain of their National Development League side.
Kinsley takes over after former skipper Rob Ledwith retired, and Royals boss John Sampford says the decision came down to a choice between Kinsley and youngster Dan Gilkes.
Sampford said: “Both expressed willingness to step up and indeed were both very keen to perform the role – that they were so keen when we approached them about the vacant position is enormously to the credit of them both.
“In the end, it came down to us concluding that Ryan has more experience, this being his sixth season in league speedway to Daniel’s two.
“Also we took account of the fact that Dan already has a lot on his plate this season – heat-leader for the Royals, in the Rising Star reserve berth for the Kings in the Championship, and his increasingly frequent GB U19/U21 international duties.”
