THOMSON EXTENDS MONARCHS STAY

LONG-SERVING Kye Thomson will be back for a sixth season with Edinburgh in 2026.

The 27-year-old Australian has been with the Monarchs continuously since the sport’s resumption post-Covid, and a switch of riding position this year saw him enjoy a strong conclusion to the campaign.

Thomson said: “It is great to be back and I am looking to kick on again next season.

“From about mid-season on to the end I felt I did that this year, and that has given me a lot of confidence. I was really enjoying my speedway this year and I didn’t want the season to end.

“I gained a lot of confidence and experience riding at No.5. I enjoyed that and it gave me something to ride for knowing I was in the big heats. I actually hope to be back at No.5 next year and keep that going.”

Thomson’s return means Edinburgh are one rider short of naming their full septet for the new Cab Direct Championship season.
