SCORPIONS HIT TOP SPOT

SCUNTHORPE took over at the top of the Cab Direct Championship with a 52-38 win over Oxford to maintain their 100 per cent home record.

The Scorpions are one point ahead of Glasgow, who have one match in hand, but they have a very healthy cushion on the sides outside the top four.

Youngster Luke Harrison topped a solid scorechart at the Eddie Wright Raceway with 11+1 as the home side were able to afford two rare non-finishes for skipper Josh Pickering, who won his remaining three rides.

As in last weekend’s away defeat at Berwick, Sam Masters dominated the Cheetahs’ scoring with 16 of their points, but they remain scoreless on the road with only a visit to Poole remaining on their away schedule.

Harrison said: “It’s been nice to get back to the form that I know that I can show around Scunthorpe the last couple of weeks, after a tough start of the season. I’m back on the top of the wave and I hope I can stay there.

“It was a good team performance tonight. Oxford put in a fight midway through the meeting, but we are a very strong side at home and it was good to extend our lead a bit more at the end of the meeting. We’ve got a buffer when we travel down there in August.”
