PREVIEW: WORKINGTON v POOLE (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)
WORKINGTON make a welcome return to Cab Direct Championship action at their new home start time of 6pm tonight (Saturday) – with the toughest possible test against Poole.
The Comets are racing for the first time in three weeks after a hiatus to resolve administrative issues, whilst the Pirates have moved five points clear at the top of the table.
Both sides are at full strength with Workington reserve Vinnie Foord facing his club of last season, whilst Poole duo Richard Lawson and Paul Starke both have history with the Comets.
Workington boss James Denham said: “It’s great to be back, we have two sides at full-strength and a fantastic weather forecast ahead on Saturday. The last two weeks have been really tough on the club, but we’ve worked through the issues and are back and raring to go – as are the riders.”
“The lads have been speaking throughout, they are like coiled springs, and are just desperate to get back out on track as a team. It will be a really feisty clash against Poole as it always is – but I think the eagerness our riders have been storing the last couple of weeks will show on track on Saturday.
“If you haven’t visited Northside yet, come along – you will love it. If you know someone who used to attend? Invite them too; a warm welcome awaits.
“We’ve put in huge efforts and money to build up this venue, we have a one of the best tracks in the country – and are determined to keep it, and that starts with getting back on track this Saturday.”
Pirates promoter Dan Ford said: “I’m really pleased to see that Workington have resolved their administrative issues, and I wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.
“That said, we’ve got a job to do on Saturday. We’re hitting some good form now, and I know the boys are determined to keep delivering the high standards we expect of them.”
“As we say every year, titles are not won in June, July or August but it is important that we put down markers and demonstrate our intent. We have had a short break since our excellent result over Glasgow and the lads are keen to get back together and get the points flowing.”
