PREVIEW: SCUNTHORPE v WORKINGTON (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)

SCUNTHORPE face a simple equation ahead of their home clash with Workington at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday).

Wins in the Scorpions’ final two Cab Direct Championship fixtures on their own circuit – they also face Edinburgh next week – will be enough to secure a play-off place.

Recent signing Jacob Hook makes his debut for the home side, whilst the Comets have declared a full-strength line-up and did pull off a win in Lincolnshire earlier this season.

Scorpions promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We now know that wins in our final two home meetings will confirm our play-off place, which will be a big achievement in itself considering how our chances were rated at the start of the season.

“Not only that, we would also be in a stronger position to finish second or third above either Glasgow or Edinburgh, or both, and that would most likely mean avoiding Poole in the semi-finals, which I’m sure would be everyone’s preference.

“First things first, though, we need to make sure we are in the play-offs and that means we can afford no slip-ups against Workington.

“There cannot be any complacency because Comets are the only away team to have won here this season after turning us over at the beginning of May in the BSN Series.”
