PREVIEW: SCUNTHORPE v WORKINGTON (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)

SCUNTHORPE’S riding order has changed once again as they go into their penultimate home league match of the season against Workington tonight (Friday).

August averages see Zaine Kennedy and Luke Harrison move back up into the main body of the Scorpions’ side, with Declan Kennedy and skipper Simon Lambert dropping to reserve.

The Comets, whose recent momentum was checked by a home defeat to Redcar last week, are well placed for the aggregate point as they won the reverse fixture 58-32, but they did suffer defeat by a wider margin than that when they visited the Eddie Wright Raceway in the BSN Series.

The visitors also head to Plymouth on Saturday, but they are without reserve Vinnie Foord, who is feeling the effects of facial injury sustained in a recent crash at Poole. Connor Coles comes in to guest on Friday.

Scorpions promoter Rob Godfrey said: “I’m sure all the Scunthorpe fans will agree that I hope we see a much-improved Scorpions performance and more league points added to our tally.

“It’s going to be an interesting meeting and one that is very difficult to predict, because neither team seems to be able to find consistency.  

“Mathematically we are not out of the play-off race – but I will be happy to see us put on a decent performance, with some good, entertaining racing, and a home win at the end of it.”

Comets boss James Denham said: “We need to bounce back from last Saturday at home and we are in good position for both meetings to do so, but as always we’re taking nothing for granted.

“The aggregate point is up for grabs, but we really need to be winning these meetings as well if we want to push for those all-important play-off positions.

“The lads are really fired up and do not want a similar result to that of what we scored last time at Scunthorpe, but I believe we are a different team altogether and they know they need to be on form for both meetings, and we know what we need to do!”
