PREVIEW: REDCAR v WORKINGTON (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)

REDCAR head into their final regular Cab Direct Championship match against Workington tonight (Friday) on a run of six successive wins.

The Bears have qualified for the play-offs and are fighting for trophies on all three fronts, whilst the Comets visit the ECCO Arena still with an outside chance of making it into the top four.

They must win all of their last three fixtures, and in addition they have to turn around a 12-point deficit for the aggregate point tonight after a home defeat to Redcar earlier in the summer.

The home side have booked Jake Allen to guest for the unwell Erik Riss – which means he races on the same side as Charles Wright after their much-publicised clash at the same venue a fortnight ago, whilst Sam Hagon replaces Jody Scott who is on European U19 Pairs duty this weekend.

Bears boss Gavin Parr said: “The guys have built the momentum with six wins on the bounce, so we don’t want to throw that away as it’s important to have positive momentum heading into the most vital part of the season.

“We will not be taking Workington for granted. We know that we are in good form and riding well but we all know Workington will give us a tough match, but one our boys will be ready for.”

Comets manager James Denham said: “We know the challenge ahead of us is massive, but there’s still everything to ride for and the boys are fully focused on giving it their all.

“Redcar on Friday is the first hurdle — we’ve got to overturn a 12-point deficit and secure the aggregate point, and while we know that won’t be easy against a strong side, even with guests in their line-up, we’ve already shown this season against the likes of Glasgow and Poole that we can compete with and beat the very best on our day, and it’s a track the lads go well at.”
