PREVIEW: POOLE v SCUNTHORPE (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)

THE Cab Direct Championship’s current top two clash at Wimborne Road tonight (Wednesday) as Poole host Scunthorpe.

The Pirates are one point ahead at the summit but were left frustrated by losing an eight-point lead in their last match at Berwick on Saturday, whilst the Scorpions are strongly placed themselves with their only home point dropped coming in the reverse fixture which ended 45-45.

New signing Slater Lightcap makes his Pirates debut whilst the home side bring in Nick Morris to guest for the suspended Richard Lawson, and Jordan Jenkins steps in for Kyle Newman at reserve.

Tom Brennan makes a rare appearance back in the Championship as he guests for the Scorpions’ injured No.1 Josh Pickering.

Poole co-promoter Dan Ford said: “I don’t believe it will make much difference with the way the play-offs are shaping up, but we had Berwick on the ropes on their own patch and let it slip.

“Probably, it makes a win against Scunthorpe just a bit more important as that would put three points on to our total.

“I  know the lads were disappointed not to get over the line on Saturday and that will make them hungrier on Wednesday.”

Scorpions promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’ll miss Josh both on-and-off track, but it’s more important that Josh makes sure he is recovered and fit to go again.

“We really couldn’t have got a better guest than Tom, who won the treble with Pirates in 2024 and certainly knows the best way around Poole’s track.

“It’s going to be a tough night, but we’ve got positive results at Wimborne Road before, and we’ll travel down with a positive attitude.”
