PREVIEW: GLASGOW v POOLE (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)

GLASGOW host Poole in a big meeting of the top two in the Cab Direct Championship at Ashfield tonight (Friday).

The rivals have met in three of the last five Grand Finals and the Pirates have already booked their place in this season’s play-offs, with the Tigers currently well placed to join them.

The home side bring in Anders Rowe to replace the retired Kyle Howarth, whilst Anze Grmek replaces the injured Mario Hausl at reserve.

Meanwhile the Pirates operate rider replacement for Cooper Rushen who is competing in the European Under-24 Team Championship on Saturday.

Tigers boss Cami Brown said: “It’s a really hard situation to have to bring in two guests for every meeting and make that work in the pits. But this side does possess character by the bucketloads. “To dig out the results against Edinburgh and then over Redcar when the chips were down, that shows real desire and spirit. 

“However, we cannot keep doing that. We can’t allow teams to get six-up against us, especially against Poole at Ashfield. We have to improve. We can’t be that vulnerable, especially on our home track. If we are going to achieve anything this season, we need to be more solid and consistent at Ashfield.” 

Pirates co-promoter Dan Ford said: “It is far from a done deal as far as top spot is concerned, but we have occupied it for some time now, and I really wouldn’t want to lose out on it now.

“It is our first visit there since that never-to-forget occasion last October when we clinched the title in dramatic circumstances, so I get the feeling that they will be out to make it as difficult as possible for us.”
