PIRATES SHOW THEIR POWER

POOLE ran up a sizeable 55-35 victory over Glasgow to maintain their 100 per cent start to the Cab Direct Championship campaign.

The defending champions raced clear in the early stages of the repeat of last year’s Grand Final, and they were 12 points to the good after four races, whilst after Heat 8 the score was 34-14.

Tigers skipper Chris Harris led the resistance with 15 points from six rides as they prevented further damage, but the high-scoring hosts were already clear.

Zach Cook and Lewis Kerr both scored 11+1 with Cook missing out on a paid maximum in Heat 15, whilst Richard Lawson added 11 and youngster Cooper Rushen was only denied a full house of his own by mechanical trouble in Heat 6.

Lawson said: “It was a good night.  There was tough, hard racing, and  a nice competitive win for the team.

“I just think we are two class teams and they say the cream always rises, and I wouldn’t be surprised we will see them at the end of the season again.”

Harris said: “We’ve just got to stay positive as a team, we know what we are capable of. We just had too many boys having an off night, like I did on Friday (at Scunthorpe).

“We need to go away and regroup and try and find a spark to click together and then we should be back on song, as they say.”
