MONARCHS WIN, BEARS TAKE AGGREGATE

EDINBURGH were 47-43 winners over Redcar in the Cab Direct Championship with both sides taking some reward from the meeting.

The Monarchs seemed set to take all three points available when they raced into a 12-point lead after races, having lost 50-40 in the reverse fixture.

But although their win on the night never came under threat, a strong finish from the Bears saw them take 5-1s in Heats 13 and 15 to narrow the gap and secure the aggregate point.

Justin Sedgmen won his first four rides for the Monarchs to finish on 13 points, with reserve Jonatan Grahn scoring 9+1, whilst Danny King put in a super showing for the Bears with 16+1 from six outings.

The result leaves Edinburgh just outside the top four in the league table on race points difference, with the Bears two points behind but with matches in hand.

Grahn said: “It was a bit disappointing that we didn’t take the aggregate point, but we move forward and take the win.

“It will be important to get some more track time after the postponements and see our supporters here every week. I’m learning and getting more experience on this track.”
