MONARCHS REACH BSN SEMIS

EDINBURGH have become the third team to book their place in the BSN Series semi-finals thanks to a 50-39 win over rivals Glasgow.

The Monarchs took victory in Friday’s decisive fixture at Armadale to confirm their position as group winners, and they join Workington and Scunthorpe as definite qualifiers for the last four.

Skipper Paco Castagna roared back to top form with 14 points for the home side with guest Craig Cook also in double figures on 10. Leon Flint scored 9+2 for the Tigers.

Castagna said: “I’m amazed by how difficult the last few weeks were for me and the team. Tonight I’m really, really impressed by everyone, we’ve got to thank Cookie for his hard work, and everyone did a massive job.

“Even though Lasse (Fredriksen) was injured halfway through the meeting he kept going. We all did our job and got a win against Glasgow which is always satisfying.”

Tigers boss Cami Brown said: “If you look at before Heat 13, we had won seven heats to Edinburgh’s five. But we were miles behind because we’d had far too many last places. That’s the story of the meeting.

“Going into Heat 15 we had won seven heats each. That’s the problem. We had 10 last places and they had two 5-1s. It’s just not good enough.”
