BIG BSN WIN FOR PIRATES
POOLE look set to retain the BSN Series trophy after a stunning performance to win the first leg of the Final 53-37 at Scunthorpe.
Stand-in captain Zach Cook raced to a 15-point maximum for the Pirates at the Eddie Wright Raceway, and No.1 Richard Lawson was also unbeaten by an opponent with 14+1.
Tom Brennan added double figures with 10+1 as the rampant visitors limited the Scorpions to just two race wins on their own circuit.
Those came from impressive reserve Luke Harrison, who scored 12 from six rides, whilst Connor Mountain was next best for the hosts with 8+1. The second leg takes place at Wimborne Road on Wednesday.
Cook said: “I just went out there and did what I could do and gave it everything, and it was a really good night personally, and obviously all the team did an awesome job as well and it leaves us with a good lead for Wednesday.
“I had plenty of speed in the bikes and that always helps, and you can put it in places where you wouldn’t normally and it makes life a lot easier.”
Scorpions boss David Howe said: “We’ve got to give credit where credit’s due, Poole are formidable opposition, and as a team we’ve kind of run out of steam in the last few weeks.
“We’ve come up against the best teams in the league consistently, and we’ve just fallen short, there’s no hiding from that fact.”
