BANDITS WELL PLACED

BERWICK look set for a place in the BSN Series semi-finals after a thumping 57-33 win over Edinburgh which also secured the aggregate point.

The Bandits now top the Scottish group ahead of Sunday’s derby clash between Glasgow and Edinburgh and they also have a better race points difference than Workington who finished runners-up in the northern section.

The aggregate point became the main issue at Shielfield Park with the scores tied overall after Heat 13, but a 4-2 in Heat 14 edged the Bandits ahead before guest Leon Flint and Nick Morris wrapped things up in the finale.

Flint scored 13 points with Morris and another guest Sam Hagon both scoring 10+1, whilst Kye Thomson put on a tremendous battling show for the Monarchs with 15 from seven rides.

Berwick manager Stewart Dickson said: “I’m proud of the way we did our jobs tonight and the riders’ reward looks like being a second semi-final.

“Both guests gave us full commitment and backed up the regular Bandits superbly well.

“Losing Peter Kildemand on Friday night meant we were up against it but I am delighted to say we got the job done.”

Monarchs boss Alex Harkess said: “It was a very disappointing result. At the end of the day we only had one rider that we could depend on, and even he ran out of steam eventually, but it’s a hard track to do seven rides on.

“Kye did very, very well but there wasn’t enough back-up and we are very disappointed.”
