BATTYE BASHES COMETS

BERWICK reserve Reid Battye starred with a remarkable performance as Berwick maintained their 100 per cent home record in the Cab Direct Championship with a 56-34 win over Workington.

Battye piled up an incredible total of 16+4 from a full seven ride stint, taking extra outings after fellow reserve Jack Smith crashed out of the meeting in Heat 3 when he suffered a hip injury.

Tate Zischke was the only Comets rider to defeat Battye, that coming in his fellow countryman’s final ride of the night in Heat 14.

Peter Kildemand (12) and Victor Palovaara (10+1) were also in double figures for the Bandits who were convincing winners, whilst former Berwick rider Drew Kemp won three races to finish on 12 points for the Comets, and Zischke totalled 10+1.

Bandits manager Stewart Dickson said: “Reid Battye will grab the headlines, and rightly so. It was a phenomenal performance, but this was a really good team performance.

“We showed that we are still in the fight to reach the play-offs, but we must keep the momentum going.”

The teams meet again at the GT Tyres Arena today (Sunday, 3pm) with Mitchell Cluff guesting for Smith at reserve for the Bandits.
