PREVIEW: SCUNTHORPE v OXFORD (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)

SCUNTHORPE have the opportunity to go top of the Cab Direct Championship with a home win over Oxford tonight (Friday).

The Scorpions have been the surprise packages of the second tier and have put themselves in a strong position with a 100 per cent record at the Eddie Wright Raceway in league competition, backed up by a win and a draw on their travels.

Meanwhile it is must-win territory for the Cheetahs who are eighth in the table as they go into the first of just two remaining away matches. They track Sam Hagon as a guest for Mitch McDiarmid who is away on SGP2 duty.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We need to be looking at scoring 50-plus against Oxford at the Eddie Wright Raceway, to put us in a strong position for the aggregate bonus point when we visit their place in August.

“At the moment, we’re performing across the whole team. At No 1, Josh Pickering is by far and away the best rider in the league which is really contributing towards our success this year.

“At the other end of the team, the reserves have been contributing well, which is very encouraging. We’ve got seven riders all capable of contributing heavily, especially at home, and we need to keep up the momentum going against Oxford this week.”

SCUNTHORPE:  Josh Pickering, Connor Mountain, Dan Gilkes, Luke Harrison, Michael Palm Toft, Ryan Ingram, Nathan Ablitt.

OXFORD: Sam Masters, Luke Killeen, Edward Kennett, Sam Hagon, Anders Rowe, Darryl Ritchings, Dayle Wood.

SCB Referee: Graeme Hunter
