PREVIEW: BERWICK v WORKINGTON (MAXiCAB KO CUP)

BERWICK and Workington meet at Shielfield Park tonight (Saturday) in the first of two MAXiCab KO Cup quarter-final clashes in the space of less than 24 hours.

The Bandits are looking to break their recent Cup jinx having not progressed past the first stage in over a decade, and they face three of their former riders in the Comets team.

Jonas Jeppesen, Craig Cook and guest reserve Dayle Wood all rode for Berwick in 2025, whilst there are also connections in the opposite direction as Bandits skipper Jye Etheridge was with Workington last year, and Peter Kildemand started his UK career in Cumbria.

Berwick manager Stewart Dickson said: “Before we even think about how big a lead we want for Sunday, we have to make sure there are no mistakes on Saturday and get the first leg won.

“We need to be on our game because most of the Workington side ride Shielfield Park well, but the same can be said for us at Northside.”

Comets stand-in boss Barry Collins said: “It looks to be a cracking weekend of racing, with two fairly evenly matched teams, great weather forecast and everything set for two competitive meetings.

“Berwick have riders which go well around Northside, but likewise both Jonas and Craig rode at Berwick last year, so both legs could be close and come down to key moments.”
