LAST RACE WIN FOR TIGERS

MIDDLESBROUGH edged out Belle Vue 45-44 in an eventful WSRA National Development League clash at the ECCO Arena on Sunday.

Tom Spencer was the Tigers’ hero with a win over the previously unbeaten Will Cairns in Heat 15 which took the home side to their second victory of the season.

It means they are currently two points ahead of the Colts in the league standings, with the Manchester club set to complete their campaign at Leicester on Wednesday.

Belle Vue led by seven points after Heat 6 in a meeting which took place in wet and slippery conditions, but Middlesbrough turned it around to lead 38-33 with three heats to go.

The Colts hit back with a 4-2 and a 5-1 and they had a one point lead heading into Heat 15, but Spencer took the win over Cairns with Stene Pijper in the important third place as Colts captain Freddy Hodder retired.

Charlie Southwick piled up an impressive 13+2 from six rides for the hosts with Ace Pijper scoring 10, whilst Cairns (14) and Hodder (12) led the way for the visitors.
