SIX OF THE BEST FOR CAIRNS
WILLIAM Cairns scored a six-ride 18-point maximum as Belle Vue raced to a 56-34 win over Edinburgh in the WSRA NDL.
The 15-year-old continued his stunning start to life in official league racing with an unbeaten show at the National Speedway Stadium, where Colts guest Joe Thompson also scored a maximum, in his case 12 from four rides. Dayle Wood picked up 11+1 for the Monarchs Academy.
Cairns said: “Everybody stepped things up. We won’t be champions this year but we still have meetings where we can potentially secure a spot in the top three and we’d love to do that to finish off.
“I was pretty chuffed with my own performance. I didn’t expect to come away with an 18-point maximum but it felt really good and I’m looking forward to the next one.”
Edinburgh boss Scott Wilson said: “William Cairns was exceptional, as we all expected he would be. It’s very hard to beat a team with a reserve of that quality.
‘It sounds strange to say after a defeat but I’m very proud of the lads. The odds were stacked against us and we could’ve capitulated after the slow start, but to a man they rolled their sleeves up and fought. I’m proud of them for that.”
