ONE OUT OF TWO FOR ACADEMY

EDINBURGH moved off the foot of the WSRA NDL table with a 58-31 win over Scunthorpe which also saw them collect the aggregate point.

Dayle Wood scored a 14+1 paid maximum for the Monarchs Academy, who clinched the maximum haul with a 5-1 from Wood and Connor Coles in Heat 15 to overturn a 24-point deficit from the reverse fixture.

But the home side then lost out to in-form Belle Vue, whose 53-35 win in the second half of the double header cemented a top three finish for the Colts, and they could yet end higher.

Youngster William Cairns starred again with 16+1, with Sam Hagon scoring 11 and Freddy Hodder 10+3.

Edinburgh boss Scott Wilson said: “I was really pleased to get the aggregate point in the first one, we haven’t won too many matches this year but I did say to the boys on the track walk that with Scunthorpe being understrength we could smell blood, and they got the lead and kept building on it and building on it, so I was really pleased with that performance.

“I think the bottom line in the Belle Vue match is we were beaten by the better team. We stuck to our task and didn’t give in and we finished strong with the 5-1, but ultimately we were beaten by the better team on the night.

“They are probably the best team in the league at the moment, especially with William Cairns at reserve.”
