LION CUBS STILL UNBEATEN

LEICESTER defeated Oxford 47-41 in the battle of the two unbeaten clubs in the WSRA National Development League on Sunday.

The Lion Cubs maintained their 100 per cent record and have now completed their home schedule, whilst the Chargers took consolation by keeping things close with the aggregate point in mind.

Captain Joe Thompson top-scored for the hosts with 13 whilst reserve Vinnie Foord weighed in with 11+2.

Oxford skipper Luke Killeen dropped just one point on his way to 14 and Jody Scott added 10+1, but reserves Senna Summers and guest Sam Woods were both withdrawn after crashes.

Thompson said: “It was a good result, and it’s nice to be winning meetings so I enjoy captaining this side.
“This was a very important meeting for us to win, and we did it, so we have to be pleased with that.”

Chargers boss Peter Schroeck said: “The boys got stuck in and I couldn’t have asked for more from them. We even lost a 5-0, so to only lose by six points was some achievement.

“We lost some points in other races too, while losing both reserves meant we were very restricted in what we could do. When you consider everything that happened, we did so well to keep the gap to six points.”
