LION CUBS DOMINATE AT BORO

DEFENDING WSRA National Development League champions Leicester raced to an emphatic 56-34 victory at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

15-year-old Cooper Rushen scored a 17+1 paid maximum for the Lion Cubs, including wins in both Heats 13 and 15.

Max Pery added 11+2 for the visitors, who were six points up after Heat 9 but stretched clear over the closing stages.

No.1 Ben Trigger was withdrawn with a shoulder injury after winning his first three rides, whilst former Leicester rider Tom Spencer was top scorer for the Tigers with nine.

Lion Cubs manager Jen Crossland said: “It was a superb team performance. Everyone rode well, obviously Cooper with his paid maximum was brilliant but I was really pleased with the whole team.

“Ben has been struggling with his shoulder, he’s had it strapped up and it was best for him not to risk it any further in Heat 13, but he did ride really well and was unbeaten.”

The 500cc British Youth Championship round which followed the meeting was won by Jamie Etherington ahead of Rushen and Charlie Southwick, whilst the earlier 125cc support class was won by Rex Austin ahead of Callum Hague and Douglas Marshall.
