TIGERS THROUGH TO FACE WITCHES

SHEFFIELD swept into their second successive Sports Insure Premiership Grand Final with a comprehensive aggregate victory over Wolverhampton.

The Tigers led by ten points from the away leg and wrapped up a 39-21 win at Owlerton on Thursday in a meeting curtailed after Heat 10 having been raced in near-constant rain.

Skipper Kyle Howarth top-scored with 9+1 for the home side with guest Robert Lambert unbeaten with 8+1 from three. Luke Becker and Zach Cook both scored five as Wolves’ title hopes once again ended at the semi-final stage.

Sheffield boss Simon Stead said: “Credit to both teams. Track conditions were difficult with the rain that came down all night but there weren’t any whingers, they all got their heads down and they got us to ten races.

“I’m obviously really pleased. We’ve been working hard, we’ve had to patch things up and make the most of a difficult position.

“The lads who we’ve brought in have done a fantastic job, they’ve really bought into the club and they’ve given their all.”

Wolves star Steve Worrall said: “Full credit to the Sheffield lads they were on the ball in both meetings; they were great at our place and they were even better here.

“It would’ve been a fairytale ending for Wolverhampton to be able to sign off by winning the league – but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.”

Sheffield will now face Ipswich in the Grand Final with the first leg at Foxhall next Monday (October 2) and the return at Owlerton on Thursday October 5.
