MORRIS THANKS GRAND FINALISTS
SPORTS Insure Premiership CEO Phil Morris has thanked everyone involved in Thursday’s dramatic Grand Final decider between Sheffield and Ipswich.
The Tigers and the Witches fought out a classic contest over two legs which went down to the wire at Owlerton with Sheffield clinching the title in the very last race.
With the second leg raced in less than ideal conditions as rain moved in during the evening, Morris has paid tribute to both teams for their determination to push on with the meeting.
He said: “I have to thank all the riders as well as the team managers and promoters for their co-operation because not once was there any suggestion that we shouldn’t be continuing.
“We had no quibbles from any of the riders, they were determined to go out and settle the league title on track, and I think despite the weather it was a terrific Final with some great racing and the result in doubt until the very end.
“Congratulations to Sheffield on winning the title with a brilliant performance on the night, but also to Ipswich for what they’ve brought to this season, and of course they did win the KO Cup so they do have something to show for their efforts.
“I thought there was a great atmosphere on the night, and really that was the case throughout the play-offs when you look at the crowds for the meetings at Belle Vue, Wolverhampton and at Ipswich in the first leg, so thanks to all the fans for turning out.
“On a wider basis I’d like to thank all of the clubs for their willingness to engage this year. We have made some small tweaks that I do feel have enhanced the product, and we will be working hard over the winter to be ready for 2024.
“And I must also thank Sports Insure for their sponsorship of the league – they are firm supporters of the sport, and they want to see us grow further.”
