CVS BANK HOLIDAY DELIGHT

WOLVERHAMPTON promoter Chris Van Straaten has hailed his side’s Bank Holiday Monday efforts after they closed the gap on Belle Vue at the top of the Sports Insure Premiership.

The two sides took part in a dramatic 45-45 draw in Manchester before the Aces edged the Super Heat thanks to a last-bend pass by Brady Kurtz – but Wolves took three points in the evening, making it four from the day, by winning a hard-fought return fixture 46-44.

Said Van Straaten: “I thought Monday was absolutely fantastic, and for us to win at home in a last heat decider as we celebrated our 95th Anniversary was very fitting if you ask me.

“We did something almost identical against Poole when we turned 90 five years ago and I thought there was a terrific atmosphere once again on Monday night.

“I thought the two meetings against Belle Vue were both terrific adverts for British Speedway; the entertainment provided in terms of racing, the close nature of the meetings, the crowd levels, it was a perfect day of speedway if you ask me.

“Full credit to both sets of riders, but it was the Wolves riders who came out on top over the two meetings in the end and it was a great team effort.”
