STARS LEAVE ACES FOURTH

KING’S Lynn’s 50-40 win over Belle Vue at the Adrian Flux Arena means the defending champions are locked into fourth place in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership ahead of the play-offs.

The Stars kept up the strong run which has underlined their position as best of the rest outside the top four, and back-to-back 5-1s in Heats 9 and 10 proved crucial to the outcome.

Richard Lawson was impressive once again with 13+1 from five rides, including wins in Heats 14 and 15 as the home side secured the aggregate point despite facing the Aces’ powerhouse top two in the last race.

Reserve Ben Cook added 11+1 against his former club, whilst Brady Kurtz and Dan Bewley both scored 11 for the Aces.

King’s Lynn boss Rob Lyon said: “We managed to get a win and the aggregate point, which is a great performance, and it’s just a shame the season is ending so quick for us.

“You know what Belle Vue are about, certainly their top two, and they did a bit of damage and kept them in it for a long period of time, but we had enough firepower to get over the line which is the main thing.

“Even with Nicolai (Klindt) scoring one, which is very uncharacteristic for him, it’s been a solid team performance, and the strength in depth theory has been paying off for the last few weeks.”

Belle Vue manager Mark Lemon said: “We just didn’t get the rub of the green. Jaimon (Lidsey), Dan and Brady all had bike troubles. 

“You can take a hit for a couple of mechanical issues but to have five and all end up pointless scores, it’s going to hurt you. 

“That’s speedway. It’s disappointing to not finish the league campaign with a win which was within our grasp for most of the meeting.”
