PREVIEW: SHEFFIELD v BIRMINGHAM (ROWE MOTOR OIL PREM)
SHEFFIELD have top spot in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership in their sights when they host Birmingham at Owlerton tonight (Thursday).
The Tigers suffered a blow when they exited the KO Cup to Leicester last week, but victory over the Brummies will take them back above Ipswich in the league standings.
And they had a first Premiership call-up to youngster Will Cairns, who impressed on his Championship debut with Poole last night, as a guest for injured Rising Star reserve Leon Flint.
Birmingham will operate rider replacement for Keynan Rew as he has a Polish commitment, but they otherwise track the same riders who defeated King’s Lynn at Perry Barr on Monday.
Tigers skipper Josh Pickering said: “As a group, we’re going to be looking to build from here on in now, make sure we all take something away from each meeting, add it all up piece by piece and when those bigger meetings come along in a couple of months’ time,
“I’m sure we’ll be in a much better position and we’ll go into those play-offs and give it everything to make us the champions again.
“I do know we’ve still got a bit of work to do before that, though, to cement our position in the top four – and that all starts against Birmingham.”
Brummies captain Tobiasz Musielak said: “Sheffield away will be difficult, but this is speedway. It is a new day and anything can happen.”
