PREVIEW: OXFORD v LEICESTER (ROWE MOTOR OIL PREM)

OXFORD face ROWE Motor Oil Premiership Grand Finalists Leicester in the final regular league match of both clubs’ seasons tonight (Thursday).

The Spires are looking to finish a tough campaign on a high by securing a win against a team other than Birmingham, having already announced they plan to focus on Cheetahs and Chargers racing in 2026 after racing at all three levels of the sport in the last two years.

Meanwhile the Lions are building up to their second successive title decider after their dramatic semi-final win over Sheffield set up a Final with Ipswich next month.

Oxford bring in Richard Lawson to guest for the unwell Erik Riss at No.1 with the teams otherwise tracking their regular line-ups.

Spires manager Peter Schroeck said: “The boys from the Spires want to go out with a victory in their last-ever meeting.

“Although this year has not gone as we planned, I hope our supporters have enjoyed the last couple of seasons for the Spires. The team has created some memorable moments, especially last year, when we seemed to win nearly every home meeting in a last-heat decider.

“Leicester may have one eye on their forthcoming play-off Final, but for us, the Spires are concentrating on winning their final meeting.”

Leicester boss Stewart Dickson said: “We will go there to try and win the meeting, as we normally do. I don’t think we’ll go gung-ho, but when riders put their helmet on, they need to race – it’s just the way they are!

“We go there in a buoyant, confident mood, and we hope Oxford put on their usual well-prepared track. Our riders enjoy going there, and it’s a match we will look to win.”
